The Real Madrid goalkeeper is currently recovering from a serious illness and is expected to return to the field for Sunday’s Champions League game with Schalke 04, according to reports in Italy.
The reports come from Italian media outlet Gazzetta dello Sport and say that Ardiles, who missed two of the last three games due to a serious medical condition, is now expected to start on Sunday after spending the past week undergoing treatment at the renowned Medici Hospital in Milan.
The 32-year-old has played in all four of the club’s games this season, but has struggled with injury throughout the campaign.
The Real Madrid stopper had to be helped off the field after suffering a minor injury during Saturday’s win over Atletico Madrid, and was then taken to the hospital after sustaining a head injury during the first half of Sunday’s 2-1 win over Juventus.
However, he returned to the game on Sunday, after which he was taken to a hospital for further assessment.
Rafa Benitez was quoted as saying after Sunday’s game that Ardile would return to action in two to three days, but there were no immediate reports of his recovery.
