The fall fashion season has been dominated by fashion brands like H&M, Calvin Klein, and Zara, but one of the more unusual trends is a “Black, Asian and/or Mixed-race designer” coming out of Brooklyn.
Black designer Mollie Lee was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1988 and moved to New York City in 1991.
In 2014, she opened her own label, Mollies, which is the name of her first collection.
In 2017, Lee launched a new label, Black and White, which has two collections in 2017.
The first, called Black and Pink, features black, white, and pink colors on an all-over print.
The second, called All Black, features the same color palette but with black accents on the back.
Black and white is an interesting choice for Lee, since her clothing is usually comprised of a combination of both black and white.
Lee’s clothing is often inspired by her parents, who are white, so she is trying to make sure she gets the right representation of the black community.
Lee said that she wanted to create a range of clothes that reflect the culture she grew up in and be accessible for the modern, urban American woman.
“I want people to wear what I wear,” Lee said.
“They’re going to be able to walk into my store and be able see that I have a rich heritage.”
Black and Asian designers often have a history of being criticized for being too conservative and wearing a uniform.
In 2016, Yvonne Huang, a designer from the Philippines, was accused of dressing as a white woman and making her look Asian to be seen in the fashion industry.
“When you’re an Asian, you have to be the opposite of what the majority is,” Huang said.
Black, white and pink, all of which are considered fashion trends at the moment, are also part of a wider trend of “intersectionality,” a term that describes the idea that fashion can be inclusive to all people regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, and sexuality.
“What you can do is look at what we wear, and what we do, and the beauty in what we’re doing, and you can see the difference,” Lee told me.
“We want to be visible, and I want to show you how I see myself.”
Molli Lee is the designer behind Black and Yellow.
Lee is a black designer who lives in Brooklyn.
She is working with a group of designers to bring the Black and Chinese-American community into fashion.
I asked Lee if she ever felt like there was a “safe space” in fashion.
“No, I never felt that safe,” Lee responded.
“If anything, I’ve always felt like the majority of the fashion scene is a space where we’re allowed to be who we are.
We’re allowed not to be judged by the color of our skin, we’re not allowed to dress like an animal, and we’re never told that we’re inferior.”
Molls fashion has been popular in the past, but Lee said she hopes that the fashion community will start looking at her style and not be afraid to show it off to the public.
“For the first time, people are seeing us as people, and people are starting to look at us as equals and not as second-class citizens,” Lee continued.
“So, I think it’s important for us to be proud and show that we can do things that are out there.
I want people, when they see our fashion, to feel like they can’t live in a world where they have to conform to what we have to do.”
